Celebrating the Legacy of Janelle MacGinley: A Champion for Logan's Youth

In the heart of Logan one name stands out for unwavering dedication to youth empowerment and community development: Janelle MacGinley.

As a McDonald’s franchisee of 5 Logan locations, she transformed her business into a beacon of opportunity and support for young people.  Janelle’s professional journey began in the hospitality industry, serving as a marketing executive for the Marriott hotels in Surfers Paradise and Brisbane. In 1998, she made a pivotal career shift, embracing the fast-food industry by opening her first McDonald’s outlet in Marsden, Logan. This transition marked the beginning of her profound impact on the local community.

Over the years, Janelle expanded her franchise operations to include five McDonald’s stores across Logan, including locations in Eagleby, Beenleigh, Logan Central, and Holmview. Her leadership not only grew her business but also created employment opportunities for hundreds of young people in the across Logan. Empowering Youth Through Employment Janelle’s commitment to youth employment was evident in her proactive hiring practices. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when youth unemployment in Logan soared above 19.8%, she increased her staffing levels from 650 to 875 by August. This initiative provided much-needed jobs and stability for young individuals during a challenging period.

Beyond providing jobs, Janelle ensured that her employees received comprehensive training and development opportunities. Her stores offered nationally recognized qualifications, including Certificates II and III in Retail and Advanced Diplomas in Management. This focus on education equipped young workers with valuable skills for their future careers.

Supporting Community and Youth Initiatives Janelle’s dedication extended beyond her business operations. She actively supported various community programs aimed at youth development. Notably, she has partnered with the Souths Logan Magpies and the Canberra Raiders to fund the junior rugby development programs, fostering sportsmanship and teamwork among local youth.  Locally she sponsored many local events and organisations including but not limited to Quota Beeneleigh, Beenleigh yatala Chamber of Commerce, Beenleigh Show, Cane Festival Parade, Rotary Club of Beenleigh.

Her commitment to community engagement was recognized through prestigious accolades, including the Golden Arch Award, bestowed upon less than 1% of McDonald’s owners and operators worldwide.   A Lasting Legacy Janelle MacGinley’s unwavering dedication to the youth of Logan has left an indelible mark on the community. Through her business acumen, philanthropic efforts, and passion for empowering young people, she has created a legacy of positive change and opportunity. As Logan continues to grow and evolve, the foundations laid by leaders like Janelle will undoubtedly inspire future generations to pursue excellence and give back to their communities.

Janelle's celebration of life was attended by over 500 friends, family and community members with standing room only a true testament to the impact she had on the wider community.  Janelle's passion, optimism and ability to overcome challenges will be missed greatly, she greeted everyone she met with the kind of warm empowering smile that was impossible to forget.  We thank Janelle, her husband Peter and sons Willian and Patrick for all they have done for the Logan community and for leaving a legacy that will have a lasting impact on the community.
