A Fond Farewell as Beenleigh Gears up for faster Rail

After 139 years of service, the Imperial Hotel in Beenleigh has closed it's doors permanently on 5 September 2025, making way for a vital infrastructure upgrade in the lead-up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.  To celebrate the end of this historic era, the hotel had one last hurrah—with entertainment  and many community members attending bringing back memories of fun times at the venue.

The closure is directly linked to the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, a transformative piece of rail infrastructure that will double the tracks from two to four along the 20 km corridor between Kuraby and Beenleigh. By removing bottlenecks and adding upgraded stations, the project will bring more frequent, safer, and efficient rail services—especially important as our region prepares for substantial growth and the 2032 Game.

Designed improvements include modern station upgrades, level crossing removals, enhanced accessibility (new lifts, CCTV, pedestrian overpasses), and better walking and cycling connections. These upgrades will mean reduced congestion, quicker travel, and stronger linkages across our entire region. The rail improvements will boost commute times, safety, and accessibility, which benefits everyone—from daily commuters and families to local businesses and future residents.

The station upgrades (like the relocation and modernisation of Beenleigh station, improved park-and-ride facilities, and new cycle-friendly access) are poised to become a community asset—not just transport infrastructure.
